Born in the small town of The Dalles, Oregon in 1985, I grew up with a constant desire to understand how things work. Many of my childhood toys were robbed of their batteries and motors for whatever strange device I felt like making. This continued until I was eleven and gained an interest in computers and the internet.
By age twelve, I had started my first website. It was ugly and contained little in the way of valuable information, but to me it was a playground. The free hosting provider I used provided pre-made templates for its users, which were not much more than a few tables for positioning purposes. After wanting to do more than the pre-made templates allowed, I started digging around in the advanced editor, which allowed me to edit the raw HTML of the page. By viewing the source code of other pages around the web, I was able to figure out how to do many different things and turned the page into something unique.
Fast forward to today. I've continued teaching myself new tricks all these years. My interest has switched from just websites to all forms of digital media. Since age thirteen, I have been teaching myself graphic design. In 2001, I started learning PHP, which finally allowed me to create dynamic sites to suit my needs without relying on pre-made software. I've even dabbled in audio and video editing, and hope to learn more about both in the coming years.
This is not my hobby. This is me. I always strive to improve, as there is always room for improvement in what I do.
Yes, that's me in the picture. Don't ask.
